Canfield at a glance
Canfield is a city of 7,699 people (2020) at the junction of U.S. Routes 62 and 224, surrounded by Canfield Township, southwest of Youngstown. The Canfield Fair, held each Labor Day weekend, is one of the largest county fairs in Ohio and a reminder that summer here can be hot and humid.
What that means for your heating
Canfield has historic homes near the village green and many larger newer homes on the outskirts. Bigger houses often have two systems or zoning; see heat pumps. Historic houses may still heat with boilers.
The village green
Historic buildings around the green need careful equipment choices that fit old walls and basements. Newer subdivisions on former farmland are exposed to wind across open fields.
Judson Canfield's township
The township was set up in 1798 and took the name of Judson Canfield, a land agent who owned most of it, in 1800. Early settlers came mainly from Connecticut, followed by German and Irish immigrants, and goods arrived by wagon from Pittsburgh and later the Beaver Canal. Older homes here benefit from a boiler expert; see boilers and radiators.
